Team India started the 2019 World Cup campaign on a strong note with a six-wicket victory over South Africa in Southampton.
The Men in Blue were convincing throughout the game as leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal picked four-for to dent the Proteas batting line-up followed by Rohit Sharma blistering ODI century which took the match away from South Africa hands.
In the rousing contest, veteran Mahendra Singh Dhoni wicket-keeping gloves grabbed the attention on which regimental dagger insignia of the Indian Para Special Forces was spotted.
Dhoni is himself a Lieutenant Colonel in the Parachute Regiment and the honour was bestowed on him in 2011. He also did his Para Brigade training in 2015. This is not the first time when MS Dhoni has shown his love form Indian Armed forces. From time to time the ambassador of Indian sports fraternity came out in support of them.
While on match front, Dhoni did what he did best behind the stumps when he destroyed the bails of Andile Phehlukwayo. With bat also the wicket-keeper batsman scored 34 runs off 46 balls to build a solid partnership with Rohit for the fourth wicket.
Earlier, Rohit Sharma made the most of an early reprieve to post an unbeaten 122 and guide India to a six-wicket win over an injury-depleted South Africa on Wednesday, when tight bowling dominated a low-scoring group game at the Rose Bowl.
India will next play Australia on June 9 at Kennington Oval in London in their journey of the 2019 World Cup.
