After rain played spoilsport in the first one-day international between India and West Indies, all eyes will be on the second ODI which will be played at the same venue – Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain on Sunday. Shrugging off the disappointment of ICC Champions Trophy final, men in blue started the five-match ODI series on a positive note against the lowly-ranked West Indies. The hosts played a 1-1 draw against the inspiring Afghanistan team in their last One-day International (ODI) series earlier this month.
In absence of opener Rohit Sharma, the newly formed opening combination of Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane knitted a steady 132-run stand in the first ODI to give the visitors a solid platform. Both the openers notched up crucial fifties but failed to convert it into a big one for their team. Yuvraj Singh once again flopped at No.4, but it was captain Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni who steadied the ship for the world number three side.
For West Indies, skipper Jason Holder, fast bowler Alzarri Joseph and spinner Devendra Bishoo picked up a wicket each to somehow pull things back with the ball. If the weather remains good, it will be interesting to see can the young and inexperienced West Indies side pass the litmus test against a more balanced Indian team who will be more than eager to put aside the disappointment of the past and register a comprehensive win.
