Kohli, Dhoni only cricketers in ESPN’s World Fame 100 rankings

Virat Kohli, who is enjoying one of the best phases of his cricketing career after a swashbuckling performance in the IPL and World T20, has entered the list of top ten global sports fame list released by ESPN.

New Delhi: Virat Kohli, who is enjoying one of the best phases of his cricketing career after swashbuckling performances in the IPL and World T20, has entered the list of top ten global sports fame list released by ESPN. 

Kohli was at the eighth rank in the recently released ESPN World Fame 100 rankings which is mainly dominated by basketball and football players.

Meanwhile, Indian team’s ODI and T20 captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni secured the 13th rank in the list. 

Star tennis player Sania MIrza was the third Indian on the list, at number 41. 

The list that included just three Indian sportsperson, was led by Cristiano Ronaldo world’s top-earning footballer.
 
Based on the formula devised by Ben Alamar, ESPN's director of sports analytics, that combines endorsements, salaries, social media following and Google search popularity, the top-100 list included 92 men and just eight women.

Kohli, who is undoubtedly the most talked about cricketer in the world nowadays, amassed 9973 runs in the recently concluded Indian Premier League and was also awarded Player of the Tournament in the ICC World T20. 

The Top 10 players on the ESPN World Fame 100 rankings are Cristiano Ronaldo, LeBron James, Lionel Messi, Neymar, Federer, Kevin Durant, Tiger Woods, Virat Kohli (8th), James Rodriguez and Rafael Nadal.
