Bengaluru: Though Royal Challengers Bangalore failed to claim their maiden IPL title win, Virat Kohli’s dominance in the Indian Premier League season 9 continued today as he overtook Suresh Raina to become IPL’s all time highest run-scorer.
During his yet another excellent inning of 54 runs in the final clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kohli surpassed Raina’s record being the highest run-scorer in the cash-rich league.
Suresh Raina has scored 4,098 runs in 147 matches till date. Kohli breached the record as he reached his individual score of 44 runs.
Virat now leads the list of IPL’s all time highest run-scorers with 4,110 runs in 139 matches.
Earlier, Kohli had also become the first batsman ever in the history of IPL to cross the 4,000-run landmark when he scored a 50-ball 113 runs against Kings XI Punjab.
A few matches later, Raina also reached the coveted landmark of 4,000 runs during his inning of 53 runs from just 36 balls against KKR at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur.
Holding the Orange Cap, Kohli has scored 973 runs in 16 matches at an average of 81.08 that include four centuries and seven half centuries.
Virat is the only batsman in the nine-years history of the cash-rich league to smash four centuries and 900 runs in a single season.
However, he fell short of 27 runs to reach the magical landmark of scoring 1,000 runs in a single IPL season.
