Kerala Floods: Virat Kohli thanks Indian army for support, tells people to 'stay strong and safe'

Other than Kohli, former Team India batsman VVS Laxman and veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh also took to social media, sharing various contacts for people in need.

The Indian cricket team skipper Virat Kohli has expressed his concern for the people of Kerala as the state faces one of its worst-ever natural calamities due to torrential rains, floods and landslides. An obligated Kohli also thanked the Indian army for their efforts as they rescue people day in and out. 

Around 324 people have lost their lives in Kerala so far as a result of the havoc that has been wrecked by the rain fury in the state with 194 people dying in last 10 days.

The Indian skipper, who is currently in England, has told people to stay safe and strong. Kohli's message reads,'Everyone in Kerala, please be safe and stay indoors as much as you can. Hope the situation recovers soon. Also, thanking the Indian army and NDRF for their incredible support in this critical condition. Stay strong and stay safe.'

Kohli, who is currently leading Team India in the five-match Test series against England, plays the 3rd Test at Trent Bridge, Nottingham.

Former Team India batsman VVS Laxman also took to Twitter, 'I pray for the people affected by #KeralaFloods . Rescue Camp Locations for Reference. Please pass this information to the needy..' 

Veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh also took to social media, sharing various contacts as well.

As per information from the control room of the State Disaster Management, since August 8, 194 people have lost their lives and 36 are missing. Over 3.14 lakh people have been moved to relief camps.

According to an official NDRF spokesperson, a total of 58 teams of the force have been deputed to Kerala out of which 55 are working on ground.

The NDRF has evacuated over 10,000 people from the heavy rains and flood waters affected areas of Kerala till now as it said it has launched its biggest-ever relief and rescue operation in the country till date.
