England batsman Joe Root smashed his 15th ODI century against Pakistan in World Cup 2019 game at Trent Bridge.

Root also became the first batsman to reach the three-figure mark in the current edition of the World Cup.

Jos Buttler followed his teammate soon after, as he scored the 9th ODI century of his career. However, both were dismissed as soon as they reached their hundreds.

Root took 98 balls to reach the century, before he was removed by Shadab Khan. Mohammad Amir dismissed Jos Buttler on 103.

England made a shaky start to their innings as they targeted the highest run-chase in the history of the World Cup. The side lost the wickets of Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, captain Eoin Morgan and Ben Stokes in quick succession, before Root and Jos Buttler stabilized the English innings.

Earlier, Pakistan scored 348, playing out the full quota of 50 overs. Mohammad Hafeez top-scored for the side with 83, while Sarfaraz Ahmed also made an important contribution with the bat, scoring a reasonably pacey 55 off 44 deliveries.

England won their first game of the World Cup against South Africa. The sub-continental side, meanwhile, suffered a nine-wicket defeat to West Indies in their opener, but have made an excellent comeback in their batting performance against England.
