Royal Challengers Bangalore finished the IPL on a high after a hugely disappointing beginning to the season. Even when the side finished bottom in the league table, Virat Kohli's men registered a victory in five of their last seven games, losing only one.
Justifiably, the RCB skipper was positive about the side's performances and vowed the fans to come back stronger next year.
However, former RCB co-owner Vijay Mallya didn't miss the opportunity to take a sly dig at his former franchise. The Indian businessman reacted to Virat Kohli's Instagram post on his official Twitter account, expressing his disappointment over RCB's "wooden spoon."
Mallya, quoting Virat Kohli's Instagram post (promising for a stronger return next season) wrote, "Always a great line up but sadly on paper only."
Apart from the Indian captain, RCB's squad included players like AB De Villiers, Marcus Stoinis, Tim Southee and Shimron Hetmyer.
The Bengaluru franchise suffered six losses on a trot at the beginning of the season before regaining form towards the closing stages of the tournament. Despite such a poor start, RCB finished the tournament with only one point behind SRH, who qualified for the play-offs.
"We won last 5 of our 7 matches and with one no-result, it is something that we can be proud of," Virat Kohli said after the side's final league game against Sunrisers Hyderabad, where RCB won by 4 wickets.
A day later, Virat posted a message on Instagram, thanking his team, the staff and the fans for the relentless support throughout a relatively difficult season for the franchise.
