Kohli is now the second batsman after Chennai Super Kings' Suresh Raina (5,034 runs) to join the 5K club.
Rohit Sharma (4507), Gautam Gambhir (4218) and Robin Uthappa (4231) complete the top five.
Kohli is one of the most dangerous T20 batsmen in the world and forms the core of RCB's batting along with AB de Villiers.
Kohli has four IPL centuries to his name while he has hit 34 fifties in 165 matches he has played so far.
