Despite suffering a 72-run defeat in the first Test at Newlands, India captain Virat Kohli appeared upbeat for fresh challenges as the visitors eye revenge in the second Test, to be played in Centurion from January 13 to 17.

"Touchdown Joburg, what a City! Gearing up for the next one and very excited about it," Kohli said on Instagram, along with a picture with teammate Hardik Pandya.

Earlier on Tuesday, Pandya had promised India will return "harder and stronger" in Pretoria.

"Grateful for all your wishes and support throughout the first Test. Disappointed that we fell short the way we did. We will come back harder and stronger in Pretoria! #SAvIND," Pandya said in a tweet.

Among the struggling Indians, Pandya stood out with a notable 93-run knock in the first innings amid tough conditions in Cape Town.

In the post-match press conference, captain Kohli was seen heaping praise on the young all-rounder, saying: "He's (Hardik Pandya) a strong character. He backs himself and we believe in him. He's performing for us now, even away from home. That knock was brilliant, showed a lot of character."
