The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday announced the 15-member national squad for the upcoming three-match home Test series against New Zealand between September 22 and October 12.
While Rohit Sharma, who has been unable to perform in Test cricket for some time, was retained in the team squad, Gautam Gambhir yet again failed to make it into the squad.
After his commendable performance against the recently-concluded Test series against West Indies, KL Rahul managed to book his spot in the Test team for the New Zealand series.
The bowling force will be led by Ravichandran Ashwin, along with Ishant Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Amit Mishra and Umesh Yadav.
On the other hand, Stuart Binny and pacer Shardul Thakur have been dropped following their disappointing performances.
Chief selector Sandeep Patil said that he is very happy that Indian cricket is in great hands like Sachin Tendulkar, Anil Kumble, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid.
