Young batsmen Prithvi Shaw and Hanuma Vihari have earned maiden Test call-ups into the Indian Test squad after the BCCI announced the outfit for the next two Tests against England in the ongoing five-match series. The duo will take the place of out-of-form opener Murali Vijay and wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav whose lone appearance in the series at Lord's culminated in the hosts losing the match comfortably.
Shaw has already shown a lot of spark in his short career starting from making the highest individual score in school cricket to captaining the India U19 side to a World Cup win earlier this year. Vihari on the other hand currently averages more than any other batsman in the world in first-class cricket.
While Kuldeep has been sent to play for India A against Australia A in Visakhapatnam, the axe is not a good sign for Vijay. Already struggling with six single-digit scores in the last 11 innings, the 34-year old's Test career could be on the line here. It remains to be seen how Vijay comes back into the team as he was noticeably dropped for the Trent Bridge Test after bagging a pair at Lord's.
