Even after scoring a fifty amid tough conditions in Chelmsford, Virat Kohli couldn't impress Essex Cricket much as they wished the India captain with a cheeky tweet after he completed his fifty on the first day of the warm-up match on Wednesday. Kohli scored 68 runs off 93 balls in the first innings as India played out a draw against Essex in the three-day warm-up game at the County Ground.
Essex Cricket captioned the video on Twitter: "This guy’s not bad at cricket... 50 up for @imVkohli off 67 balls!"
The tweet started receiving flak from fans within no time as the cricket lovers didn't like such an impolite mentioning of Kohli, who already has 21 Test centuries to his name.
"Kohli getting in form for next week," a Twitter user replied, expecting an even better show from Kohli in the five-match Test series, starting August 1.
Another user joined in, saying: "He will score at least 3 centuries this summer to shut the mouth of people like you!!"
"The caption should be ... This guy's unbelievable in cricket," another user said.
Some netizens didn't hesitate to add insult to injury, mentioning that they have never won a Cricket World Cup.
Thanks to the practice match, India batsmen gained good practice in the middle ahead of the high-octane five-match Test rubber against hosts England.
In reply to India's first inning score of 395, Essex rode on Paul Walter's 75 and Michael-Kyle Pepper's 68 to pile 359/8. For India, Umesh Yadav returned impressive figures of 4/35 while Ishant Sharma scalped three wickets conceding 59 runs.
Altering their batting order in the second innings, the visitors promoted KL Rahul to open the innings along with Shikhar Dhawan, who got a golden pair.
Rahul remained unbeaten on 36 runs while Ajinkya Rahane (19 not out), helped India reach 89/2 in their second innings when the captains decided to call off the encounter.
