India were bowled out for 417 runs in their first innings, taking a lead of 134 against England at tea on the third day of the third cricket Test at the Punjab Cricket Association stadium in Mohali on Monday.
Leftie all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja produced a career best Test score of 90 to pull India to a sizeable lead. Jayant Yadav scored 55 including five boundaries.
For England, pacer Ben Strokes scalped five wickets (5/73) while spinner Adil Rashid took four wickets (4/118).
Earlier, at the end of the second day, India posted 271/6 in their first innings, trailing England by 12 runs.
England were all out for 283 runs in their first innings.
Having mopped up the England tailenders early in the opening session, India rode on some excellent batting by skipper Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara and comeback man Parthiv Patel to dominate first two sessions before the visitors hit back with four quick wickets after tea on Day 2.
Kohli, who was involved in a 75-run partnership with Pujara, was among the top scorers with 62 runs off 127 balls.
The usually flamboyant Indian captain played a patient knock, hitting nine boundaries before being caught behind off Ben Stokes' bowling.
Pujara posted a patient 51 off 104 balls before being sent back by leg-spinner Adil Rashid.
While Parthiv Patel struck 42 in just 85 balls.
