Captain Joe Root (16) had walked off shaking his head after the umpires ruled Lokesh Rahul got his hands under the ball to take a clean catch in the slips.

Earlier, resuming on 307/6, India added 22 runs to their overnight total with England pacemen Stuart Broad and James Anderson wrapping up the innings.
Broad bowled Rishabh Pant (24) and Ravichandran Ashwin (14) in successive overs, before Anderson took the final two wickets — Mohammed Shami (3) and Jasprit Bumrah (0) — in consecutive deliveries. Broad had 3/72 and Anderson 3/64.
