India became the first team from Group B to qualify for the semi-final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 after thrashing world No.1 ranked ODI team South Africa by 8 wickets in a virtual quarter-final at The Oval on Sunday. The Indians rode on a superb bowling performance to dismiss the Proteas on a low score of 191 and then achieved the target in just 38 overs. The Indian chase was powered by half centuries from Virat Kohli (76*) and Shikhar Dhawan (78). The defending champions will meet Bangladesh in the second semi-final on June 15 in Birmingham. Meanwhile, Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by three wickets on Monday to become the second team from Group B to qualify for the semis. Pakistan bowled Sri Lanka out for 236 after asking them to bat and chased down the target in 44.5 overs. Pakistan will now meet England in the first semi-final on June 14 in Cardiff.
On the other hand, England, with three wins in Group A, became the first team to qualify for the last-four stage. The hosts remained unbeaten in the group stage and are the only team to win three games. Bangladesh are the other team to qualify for the semis from Group A.
