India batsman Rohit Sharma, who is the only batsman in world cricket to hammer two double hundreds in one-day international cricket, said he will try and slam a triple hundred in the format for his fans.
The 30-year-old Rohit, who is considered one of the cleanest hitters of the ball, notched up his first ODI double hundred against Australia in 2013. His innings of 209, which was studded with 12 fours and 16 sixes, was the third double ton in ODI format after Sachin Tendulkar's 200* against South Africa in 2010 and Virender Sehwag's 219 against West Indies in 2011.
A year later, Rohit slammed the highest-ever individual score in ODI history when he massacred the Sri Lankan bowling attack for his 264 at the iconic Eden Gardens.
The innings, which included a staggering 33 fours and 9 sixes, gave a packed Eden a night to savour. Chasing India's mammoth total of 404/5, Sri Lanka could only manage 251.
Talking about his innings on the show "Breakfast with Champions", Rohit said: "I had come to play that innings after a 3-month lay off due to a finger injury. The more time I spent on the ground, the more I grew in confidence."
Rohit revealed that Duncan Fletcher, who was the coach of the Indian team back then, was not satisfied with his score.
"I hit 33 boundaries in the match. Sometimes, a team does not score so many boundaries. I had hit them alone. Our coach Duncan Fletcher said later on that you could have hit a 300, you play slow early on in the innings. I said, 264 is not so less."
Rohit said now his fans asks him when he will score a 300.
"Now when I go, people everywhere tell me to score a 300. I ask them what do you feel how many are 300 runs and how easy is to make them? The opposition has also come to play and win. That is the expectation of people.
"That shows India as a country will never stop expecting more from you. That is completely acceptable. This is what you want and you want to live up to that. I will try to score," he said.
