Glenn Maxwell heaped praise on India keeper and his former Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) teammate Rishabh Pant on Wednesday.

Maxwell spent a season with the 20-year-old in the Indian Premier League last year before being released by the franchise ahead of the IPL 2019 auction earlier this year.

It was a breakthrough year for the wicket-keeper batsman, where he scored 684 runs at an average of 52.61. He smashed a century and five fifties as well while batting in the middle-order.

The pair has been close during their time in India and Maxwell said that the 20-year-old has just 'scratched the surface in terms of his ability' and there is a lot more to come.

"He's an amazing talent. We have only seen him scratch the surface in terms of his ability. I've been glued to my TV every time he's come out to bat...if he does get going, it's pretty good to watch," Maxwell told reporters on Wednesday.

"He's extremely talented...he played some extraordinary innings for us over there (Delhi). He got an amazing hundred, where he just kept reserve-scooping balls with a straight bat, over third man for six," he added.

He also praised his athleticism.

"I think he was a gymnast growing up, so he's extremely flexible. He can manipulate his body into different positions to hit the ball," Maxwell said.

The Australia all-rounder also joked about Pant's bubbly nature and his constant chirping from behind the stumps.

"He speaks a fair amount of dross. Having spent the whole IPL with him, I certainly learned that first hand...I used to hear it all the time in the change rooms, at training. It was pretty non stop.

"We were pretty close during the IPL, which was nice," he concluded.
