Having earned a call-up to the Indian cricket team ahead of the T20 Tri-Nation series, involving neighbours Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, allrounder Deepak Hooda said he was ecstatic with his selection.
"I have to maintain my consistency and keep working hard in my practice sessions. I have to carry the positives from here with hard work and maintain my ability to be a useful all-rounder," Hooda said.
The 22-year-old from Rohtak celebrated his national call-up with a fine all-round display for the RBI in the 14th DY Patil T20 Cup on Sunday.
Hooda's 74 (35b, 5x4, 6x6) with the bat and a brilliant spell of 5-17 helped RBI beat ONGC by 45 runs.
"It is obvious that there is pressure because you have to represent your nation. I am getting a chance to perform for the country which is a huge feeling. There is a sense of responsibility too as I have to deliver my best," he added.
The Board of Control for Cricket of India (BCCI) released a 15-man squad, which will be led by Rohit Sharma. Team India opener Shikhar Dhawan will take the role as vice-captain whereas skipper Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni have been rested for the tournament. (Read full story)
