New Delhi: Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh today welcomed the Team India’s skipper MS Dhoni's decision to break ties with realty firm Amrapali over their failure to deliver on promises made to people.
“Well done @msdhoni for dropping #Amarpali builders brand ambassadorship. They didn’t give us VILLAS they announce after 2011 World Cup win,” he tweeted.
Dhoni on Friday resigned as brand ambassador of Amrapali, days after unhappy residents of a housing project in Noida launched a social media campaign asking the cricketer to disassociate himself from the builder.
A statement issued by the company’s Chairman and Managing Director Anil Sharma said: "Dhoni is no longer our brand ambassador... I do not want his image to be affected because of being attached to Amrapali. This decision was taken mutually by Dhoni and us.”
For the last 6-7 years, Dhoni was the brand ambassador of the company.
Amrapali had promised villas worth a total of Rs 9 crore as gift to Dhoni and his team mates after their victory in the ICC 2011 World Cup.
Replying to Bhajji's remark about villas, Sharma said that the ‘villas were ready for allotment but none of them came forward to take possession of it’.
“Allotment of villas were ready, these cricketers didn’t complete the process and take possession of it,” he said.
