Gautam Gambhir Gambhir lauds Kohli’s captaincy, says will be ‘aggressive’ against him if needed

Veteran batsman Gautam Gambhir, who recently made a comeback in the Indian Test team after two years, finally opened up on his much talked about rapport with Test skipper Virat Kohli.

Speaking to a leading news channel, Gambhir, who captains IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), said that there was nothing personal in the verbal duel with Royal Challenger Bangalore’s Virat Kohli that happened during the 2013 IPL.

He further added that in future he will be aggressive against Kohli if needed.

“There was nothing personal in the IPL fight with Virat. If I play against Virat again and need to be aggressive, I will,” the news channel quoted Gambhir as saying.

He also said that Kohli and he were not just aggressive but also extremely passionate individuals. According to him, there was nothing wrong in having a go at each other on the field as cricket was serious business.

Gambhir was recalled to India’s Test squad against New Zealand after two years following KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan’s injuries.

The 35-year-old opener didn’t disappoint his fans as he slammed a half-century in the second innings.

After having played under Kohli’s captaincy for the first time, Gambhir praised his leadership, saying that Kohli leads the team by example.

During the third Test against New Zealand, Gambhir and Kohli appeared quite comfortable with each other and even shared a laugh on multiple occasions.

However, it is still not clear whether Gambhir will find a place in the Test team for the series against England, starting November 9.
