South Africa captain Faf du Plessis will miss the first Test against England which starts on 6th July due to family reasons. In his absence, Dean Elgar will lead the Proteas side against a strong English team at the iconic Lord's Cricket Ground, London.

South Africa didn't have a great outing so far on the England tour as they lost the ODI and T20I series against the hosts. Led by AB de Villiers, the world number one ODI team failed to reach the knockout stages of the prestigious ICC Champions Trophy.

Du Plessis returned home last week for the birth of his first child, but Cricket South Africa says, "he will be unable to return in time for the opening test" which starts on Thursday at Lord's.

"Faf's wife gave birth to their first child last week but the difficult nature of the delivery has delayed his return to the UK," team manager Mohammed Moosajee said.

Du Plessis will rejoin the team later this week and will lead in the second Test, starting on July 14.

Left-handed batsman Elgar, who has played 35 test matches, will captain South Africa for the first time in a test match.
