Former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni achieved yet another milestone as he smashed his 100th international half-century in the first ODI of the five-match series against Australia at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday.

With his match-turning innings of 79 runs, Dhoni joined Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid to become the fourth Indian batsman to do so. Till date, Dhoni has scored 33 half-centuries in Test cricket, 66 in ODIs and one in T20Is.

For Dhoni, the achievement became more special as Sachin Tendulkar shared a memorable photograph from Sunday’s match and congratulated him.

Dhoni achieved the feat in the 472nd innings of the total 470 international matches he has played so far. Among Indian batsmen to do so, Sachin tops the list with 164 fifties, followed by Dravid (145) and Ganguly (106).

Sachin had earlier congratulated Dhoni when he had created the record of 100 stumpings as a wicketkeeper, becoming the first in the history of ODI cricket to do so. He achieved the rare feat during the fifth ODI between India and Sri Lanka earlier this month.
