Dale Steyn on Wednesday surpassed country-mate Shaun Pollock to become South Africa's highest wicket-taker in Test cricket.

Steyn picked up his 422nd wicket against Pakistan in the Boxing Day Test match in Centurion as he sent back opener Fakhar Zaman in the seventh over.

While former South Africa captain Pollock took 108 Tests to get to 421 wickets, Styen went past the mark in his 89th Test.

Styen now falls on the 11th spot - behind Richard Hadlee (431) in the list of top-10 all-time wicket-takers in Test cricket.

It was a long journey for Styen to get past Pollock's record after he reached 400 Test wickets in July 2015.

Apart from being South Africa's highest wicket-taker in Tests, Styen also holds the record for most five-hauls in innings - 26 - for the Proteas, ahead of Allan Donald (20).

Styen has taken five 10-wicket hauls in Test cricket, the most for South Africa.
