Australian opener Aaron Finch, who scored two consecutive ODI centuries recently against England, has been ruled out of the T20I tri-series opener against New Zealand as he is yet to recover from a hamstring injury.
According to reports, uncapped opener D'Arcy Short might fill the void for him.
Finch, who is the second best batsman in the International Cricket Council (ICC) T20I rankings, also sat out in the last two one-day international (ODI) matches against England due to the injury.
"He (FInch) went through some run-throughs yesterday with the medical staff, he said he sort of felt it a little bit," skipper David Warner said.
He added, "We didn't want to risk him going into this tri-series with this first game. He's going to be on ice definitely."
The tri-series involving Australia, New Zealand and England will begin from Saturday.
