Returning to the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) in its 11th edition after two years, two-time title winners Chennai Super Kings (CSK) didn't hesitate to retain their 'Thala' cricketer MS Dhoni, playing 15 crores, ahead of the IPL 2018 Acution, to be held in Bengaluru on January 27-28.
Following his retention, a wave of celebration went through the entire region as the people were extremely happy to see Dhoni donning the yellow jersey once again.
Under the captaincy of Dhoni, CSK won the title twice in 2010 and 2011 and concluded as runners-up on four occasions. The yellow-brigade also won two editions of the Champions League T20 in 2010 and 2014.
The 36-year-old cricketer from Ranchi became the love of Chennai in a small period of time. However, his recent admirer Rajinikanth has to be titled as Dhoni's most special fan.
In a recent public meeting, Rajinikanth called Dhoni his favourite cricketer without giving second thoughts on it.
In 2016, Dhoni had visited Rajinikanth's residence to promoted his biopic 'MS Dhoni: The Untold Story'. The cricketer had then received a Kanjivaram shawl from the veteran actor. Dhoni also had helped Rajinikanth promote ‘Kabali’ among his fans in Chennai.
