India will begin their World Cup campaign on June 5 when the side takes on South Africa at Rose Bowl. As team India prepares for their tournament opener, the Indian footballing fraternity came together to wish the cricket team luck.
India's men's team stars Sunil Chhetri, Sandesh Jhinghan and Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, as well as women footballers Aditi Chauhan and Dalima Chhibber recorded motivational messages for the cricket team.
Virat Kohli and his men are seen as one of the major contenders for the World Cup, alongside England and Australia.
"I wish our Indian cricket team very well for the World Cup. I’m sure you guys will do very well and bring the cup home,” said Jhingan.
Indian goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, meanwhile, said, “I wish you all the very best. We’re pretty sure you will win it for us. Just play with your heart and bring the cup home."
Both the players are the part of Indian football team's 23-member squad, which has travelled to Thailand for the King's Cup tournament. Interestingly, both, the cricket team and the football team will play the opening games of their respective tournaments on June 5.
Aditi Chauhan, the Indian women's goalkeeper who had a significant stint with West Ham United Ladies, said, "I would like to wish the Indian cricket team all the very best for the World Cup." Dalima Chhibber, who is a first-team regular with the Indian football team, also wished luck for the side.
"I would like to wish the Indian cricket team all the very best, bring the cup home," said Chhibber.
Sunil Chhetri, who is also friends with cricket team's captain Virat Kohli, urged the team to stay injury-free and put the best foot forward.
"Hi boys. Hi Virat, I want to wish you and the whole team all the very best. Just go there and put your best foot forward. Stay injury free and enjoy the World Cup," Chhetri said.
The football team will play against Curacao in their first game of the King's Cup.
