A true Indian Premier League (IPL) product, Mayank Markande makes his T20I debut for India in the series opener against Australia in Visakhapatnam. The right-handed leggie impressed heavily in the 2017/18 season of the IPL for the Mumbai Indians which now sees him don the blue jersey of India. (IND vs AUS 1st T20I Live)

Who is Mayank Markande?

The youngster was played a couple of impressive matches for Punjab in domestic cricket, especially in the T20 matches, which saw him being picked by the three-time IPL champions for a base price of Rs. 20 Lakh in the auctions. The team gave Markande a chance in the IPL which saw him claim his first wicket, of MS Dhoni. 

From there on, Markande claimed a four-for against Sunrisers Hyderabad and initially made his mark when he was handed the purple cap for a while. 

His impressive performance saw him receive a call to the India A squad, followed by making his first-class debut and later emerged as Punjab's leading wicket-taker with 29 wickets. 

A call up to the T20 side was evident after he claimed a fifer for India A against the England Lions. 

In the 1st T20I, Australia won the toss and opted to bowl in a sold-out arena at Visakhapatnam. For the visitors, Peter Handscomb made his T20I debut
