An official has been killed and 14 others have been rescued safely after a lift collapsed at the Kolihan mine of Hindustan Copper Limited in Rajasthan's Jhunjhunu district. Following the incident, efforts are on to evacuate the remaining individuals. Speaking to the media, Dr Pravin Sharma, a member of the rescue team, said that the rescue teams have reached the trapped workers.
The incident took place at Hindustan Copper Limited's (HCL's) copper mine in the Neem Ka Thana area in the late hours of Tuesday. Doctors at the site suggest all 14 those who were trapped are safe. However, nine ambulances have been kept on standby outside the mine for any emergency.
Rajasthan CM reacts to incident
Ambulances have been rushed to the spot and doctors have been asked to prepare for any situation. Meanwhile, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma said officials have been instructed to speed up the relief and rescue operations. "Information was received about the accident caused by the breakage of the lift rope in the Kolihan mine of Hindustan Copper Limited in Khetri, Jhunjhunu. The concerned officials have been instructed to immediately reach the spot and speed up the relief and rescue operations and provide all possible help and health facilities to the affected," he said in a post on X.
How did the incident occur?
A vigilance team, along with senior officials and workers of the state-owned company, had gone inside the mine for an inspection. However, when they were about to come up, a rope of the shaft or 'cage' broke due to which the cage collapsed, police said. Nursing Staff of Jhunjhunu Government Hospital, Shishram said that some people have suffered fractures in their hands and some in their legs. " Three people are seriously injured, the rest are safe. The rescue operation was done with the help of a ladder," he added.
