Gehlot sacks Minister after criticism: Rajasthan Minister Rajendra Singh Gudha was sacked with immediate effect on Friday (July 21) after he flagged the cases of crime against women under the Ashok Gehlot-led Congress government in the state.

The Minister, while addressing the Assembly today, said that the government should “look at own backyard” first before talking about violence-hit Manipur.

“The way cases of crime against women have increased in Rajasthan, instead of talking about Manipur, we should first look at our own backyard.  The way we have failed to provide security to women in Rajasthan and atrocities against women have increased, we should introspect.,” Gudha said.

Soon after this, Gehlot recommended Rajasthan Governor Kalraj Mishra to sack Gudha with immediate effect.

“Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has recommended Governor Kalraj Mishra to sack Council of Minister member Rajendra Singh Gudha, Minister of State today, July 21 evening. Governor Mishra has accepted this recommendation of Chief Minister Gehlot with immediate effect,” an official statement said.

Gudha held charge as Minister of State for Sainik Kalyan (Independent Charge), Home Guard and Civil Defence, Panchayati Raj and Rural Development.

The Opposition has been cornering the Centre and the BJP over the shameful incident in Manipur in which two women were paraded naked in the violence-hit state on May 4. They have flagged the law and order situation in the northeastern state and demanded the resignation of Chief Minister N Biren Singh. They have also demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi's answer in the Parliament over the issue.

BJP slams Gehlot over law and order in Rajasthan

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday (July 21) claimed that Congress-ruled Rajasthan has turned into a “completely failed state” with at least 18 rape cases reported on a daily basis, and asked Rahul Gandhi when he would visit the state to witness “total collapse” of law and order.

Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat raised the issue of women's safety in the poll-bound state of Rajasthan and listed the alleged incidents of atrocities against Dalits.

"As per media reports, every day 17 to 18 cases of rape and 5 to 7 cases of murder are registered in Rajasthan … Extortion of business is happening every day. Rajasthan is (in) number one position when it comes to crimes against women, crimes against children, and atrocities on Dalits," Shekhawat said at a press conference.

BJP's Rajasthan in-charge Arun Singh slammed Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot-led state government alleging that there is “jungle raj” in the state.

"In Karauli, a Dalit woman was abducted, raped, shot at and acid poured on her before her body was thrown into a well. This kind of heart-wrenching incidents of rape is happening every day. Perpetrators of the crime are threatening the victims and their families. There was a case of gangrape five kilometers away from the chief minister’s residence,” Singh said.
