New Delhi, March 4: The BJP Monday sought to know why no case was registered in the AgustaWestland VVIP chopper deal even after a week while the government was insisting on forming a joint parliamentary committee to look into the scam.
"This is the same government which was so hesitant in forming JPC earlier. Why are they so keen on letting a JPC probe the VVIP chopper deal," asked Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) spokesperson Sayed Shahnawaz Hussain.
"There is something fishy about the whole affair. Why has the CBI not registered an FIR in the case so far," he said.
Hussain claimed that the government thinks "a probe by JPC can be manipulated as they have done in the JPC probing the 2G spectrum allocation. They do not allow opposition members to speak".
The government has already ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the $750 million deal for 12 VVIP AgustaWestland helicopters, following the arrest, in Italy, of its parent company Finmeccanica's chief on charges of graft in the contract.
