Why is Narendra Modi dying for US visa, asks Renuka Chaudhary (India TV Exclusive)

New Delhi, Aug 1: Renuka Chaudhary is one of the most articulate spokespersons of the Congress party. She never minces words in criticizing her opponents but at the same time,  is always effusive in her

Q:  Being part of the inner circle of Congress, can you tell us when will the parliamentary elections take place? By end of this year or next year only?

Renuka:
People have given us the mandate for full five years. Therefore elections will be held only after completion of our term. And we'll make a comeback.

Q:  Who would be your leader in coming elections? BJP has already declared that Narendra Modi will be their leader but there is no clarity from Congress party.

Renuka: See, the new generation of Congress party believes that Rahul Gandhi should be our prime ministerial candidate. Rahulji has his own vision and he wants to strengthen the party. But he can play both the roles. We'll decide in future because we don't declare anything in advance as we take everybody's opinion into account.

Q: But why is Rahul Gandhi not coming out in the open? Recently, he said that he doesn't want to become PM.

Renuka: Why should he come out in the open? He is not working to become the Prime Minister.  His aim is to serve the ‘Aam Aadmi'(common man). He is more concerned with how to ensure the development of the nation and how to strengthen the Congress party.

Q: But don't you think that clarity from Rahul on his PM candidature will boost the morale of your party workers? They will at least feel that they also have a leader of stature against BJP's Narendra Modi?

Renuka: Let me make one thing very clear here. Narendra Modi is not a challenge for us. It's the BJP which has become so divided and hopeless that they see him as their savior. There is no Modi-Wodi in front of us. But yes, I do agree that if Rahul says openly that he is the PM candidate then it will benefit us.  But the party's objective is not to focus on any one individual. We want to focus on our overall performance.
