Patna: Stoking fire in the JD(U) house, BJP today claimed that with the support of 50 JD(U) MLAs, it could “topple the government today”, but would not do so as it did not believe in such politics.

“If we wish, we can topple the government today. Fifty MLAs of JD(U) are ready to change their allegiance and come to our party, and are in constant touch with us. But we won't do it as BJP does not believe in such kind of politics,” senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi told reporters.

The Leader of Opposition in Bihar Legislative Council claimed 50 JD(U) MLAs were in constant touch with BJP, but the party would tread cautiously on the matter.

“We'll give them place in our party when the time comes,” he said after his weekly ‘Janata Darbar' here.

BJP has 88 MLAs in the 243-member Bihar Assembly. JD(U) has 115 members and enjoys support of 24 RJD legislators, 5 of Congress, one of CPI.

Sushil Modi was reacting to allegations made by senior JD(U) leader and former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar that BJP was working on a ‘game plan' to break his party by trying to create rift between him and Manjhi.

“Let me tell clearly that BJP has no such game plan. In fact, Kumar is working on a game plan to remove Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, who has become a thorn for him,” he said.

“It is Kumar who has been breaking other parties. He broke the Lok Janshakti Party and RJD. He even took away three of our party MLAs,” he said.

The senior BJP leader said that there was no need to break JD(U) as it was already “disintegrating”.

“The JD(U) is itself going to lose its existence as it is going to merge with the RJD. Its leaders are not happy about it, and the party is disintegrating,” Sushil Modi, who was Deputy to Kumar in NDA government, said.

He also hit out at RJD saying the riots at Ajizpur in Muzaffarpur district resembled a series of massacres that took place during Lalu Prasad's rule.

Later the BJP leader left for Ajizpur village, and appealed to people of all communities to maintain peace and harmony.
