Rampur (UP) : The BJP on Wdnesday dismissed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's rejection of a "disconnect" between his government and the Congress and sought to know why voices of dissent have been emerging from various leaders of the ruling party.
BJP National Vice President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi alleged the UPA government and its main constituent Congress have "fraudulently" been attempting to demonstrate that there was no disconnect between the two.
"If he was correct then why voices of dissent have been emerging from leaders like Rahul Gandhi, Digvijay Singh and Mani Shankar Aiyar," Naqvi said referring to the Prime Minister's remarks during an interaction with a group of editors.
He told PTI that the differences in their views were enough to prove the government's alleged failure on various fronts such as price rise and tackling Naxalism and terrorism.
"Both the UPA and the Congress are engaged in the task of befooling the electorate. Some of the pillars of the government talk of no disconnect while on the other hand the party's eminent functionaries behave in a different way," the Rajya Sabha MP alleged.
On Singh's contention that he wants to reduce the average age of his Cabinet, the BJP leader said "I fail to understand that how it will affect the government's functioning when the young incumbents will continue to be driven by some bosses instead of the party's moral values and norms."
Referring to Singh's statement that the Supreme Court should not get into the realm of policy formulation, Naqvi said "Constitutional bodies have their own businesses to undertake. But when Parliament and Assemblies fail to perform accordingly, it is only the apex court which could and should assert the existence of democratic rights and the spirit of Constitution." PTI
