At a glance: Vasundhara Raje Scindia- from 'princess of Gwalior' to 'Rajasthan CM'

New Delhi: The touch of royalty comes at the very first look of Vasundhra Raje, born as a princess in the House of Gwalior. Born in the royal family of his highness Jivaji Rao Scindia, Vasundhara learned social and political issues from her mother Rajmata Vijaya Raje Scindia, ever since she was a teenager . Vasundhara was the fourth child born to Jivaji Rao and Vijaya Raje. She was sent to Presentation Convent in Kodiakanal. She graduated in Economic Hons from Sophia College, Mumbai University.She started taking keen interest in social issues at an early age.Vasundhara developed a relation with the state of Rajasthan only after she tied a knot with the ruler of Dholpur, Maharaja Hemant Singh.In 1984, Vasundhara entered mainstream politics and joined the national working committee of BJP. She was the vice president of State BJP Yuva Morcha for two years (1984-86).She became a representative of the Dhoplur constituency in Rajasthan assembly. In 1987 she became the vice president of Rajasthan state unit of BJP and in 1989 she was elected as an MP from Jhalawar. Her popularity grew to such an extent that she won the Jhalawar seat for five consecutive terms. Another add-on to her success list, was her election as the Joint Secretary of BJP's Parliamentary Party in 1997.The recognition which she had gained over a period of time bagged her the important portfolio of Minister of State for External Affairs in 1998 in Atal Bihari Vajpayee's government.She organized a Parivartan Yatra to have a closer look at the problems in the state of Rajasthan and its citizens. Having a long list of achievements was still far from over and in 2003 Vasundhra Raje did the unimaginable. She was elected as the first ever woman Chief Minister of Rajasthan.
