Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje is under constant attack by opposition Congress Party for helping former Indian Premier League (IPL) boss Lalit Modi.

Congress leaders have launched a campaign, demanding the resignation of Vasundhara Raje. She has been accused by the opposition for having connections with a “fugitive” and helping him.

Opposition has accused Raje on two counts:

Vasundhara Raje supported Lalit Modi's immigration appeal:

Under probe by Enforcement Directorate (ED) for violating Foreign Exchange Laws, Modi flew to United Kingdom and later the Congress-led UPA government seized his passport.

If the copy of an affidavit released by Congress is to be believed, Vasundhara supported Lalit Modi's immigration plea on the condition of anonymity.

“I make this statement in support of any immigration application that Lalit Modi makes, but do so on the strict condition that my assistance will not become known to the Indian authorities,” her affidavit read.

Raje declared that the cases against Modi were because of his proximity to her.

“Lalit's close connection to me as resulted in huge animosity towards him from the Congress party, both at the Rajasthan and national levels. The political attack which is currently underway against Lalit in India is in my opinion, designed to destroy Lalit's reputation, to keep him out of Rajasthan cricket and politics and to thereby discredit me,” she state in the affidavitd.

“Given my close understanding of, and involvement in, Indian politics, I have absolutely no doubt that the broad full-frontal attack that Lalit is currently facing in India is politically motivated,” she added in her signed affidavit.

Vasundhara Raje's son Dushyanat Singh's business transactions with Lalit Modi:

Between 2008 and 2010, Modi invested Rs 13 crore in Dushyant Singh's company Niyant Heritage Hotels Pvt Ltd (NHHPL) through his firm Ananda Heritage Hotels Pvt Ltd (AHHPL).

NHHPL transferred 965 shares to AHHPL at the cost of Rs  96,000 per share. Dushyant in his income tax returns has said that his shares in the same firm are worth just Rs. 10 each.

Modi's AHHPL also provided an unsecured loan of Rs 3.8 crore to NHHPL without any guarantee.

The deal is being probed by ED.
