New Delhi: Vishwanath Pratap Singh was born on 25th June 1931 in Allahabad. He was a veteran politician and the 8th Prime Minister of India. He was born in a traditional landlord's family that ruled




He won election to the Lok Sabha in 1971 and was appointed the  Deputy Minister of Commerce by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1974.

He served as the Minister of Commerce in 1976–77. In 1980, V P Singh was appointed as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.

Today Uttar Pradesh is haunted by the rapidly increasing number of heinous crimes like rape, murder, etc. Even then it was in no better shape. But unlike the present government's laid-back attitude, V P Singh strived to eradicate crime.

He cracked hard on dacoity and banditry as these two problems were most severe in the state.
