Chennai: The Election Commission has seized unaccounted cash of Rs 10.01 crore as of yesterday as part of its initiatives to curb bribing of voters in Tamil Nadu.
“As a part of this, many teams such as flying squads, static surveillance teams have been formed and those have till March 16 seized an amount of Rs 10,01,84,204,” Chief Electoral Officer, Praveen Kumar said in a statement here today.
“Sarees, jewellery and other non cash items worth Rs 1,09,19,810 were seized,” he said.
The seized cash and other items have been handed over to the Treasury and follow up action was being taken by District Election Officers, he said.
“The entire process of seizure has been videographed,” the release added.
