New Delhi: A TV news channel today said it aired a sting operation purportedly showing political parties attempting to induce voters in Delhi assembly elections, due tomorrow, by distributing free liquor.
The Headlines Today news channel said in a press release that it aired the sting operation purportedly showing inducements in the form of liquor to voters in Mehrauli where Delhi Assembly Speaker Yogananda Shastri of Congress is pitted against BJP's Parvesh Verma, son of former Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma.
"Operation Election exposes the dark belly of Delhi voting fuelled by the spirits flowing all across the capital. This is a case in point," claimed the channel.
The Election Commission had yesterday conducted raids in Ranhaula, Sarai Rohilla and Nabi Karim and seized over 1,100 cartons of liquor.
"A liquor contractor revealed to the TV Today Network (TVTN) that there were as many as 5,000 cartons of liquor finding way into the assembly segments on a daily basis from his shop alone," the channel claimed.
