Kolkata: The ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal yesterday launched an 'indefinite agitation' protesting against the railway budget and demanding its roll back.
"Like the Congress-led UPA government, the Narendra Modi government has also deprived Bengal. This railway budget has no direction. It has failed to fulfill the aspiration and expectation of the people of the state," TMC Secretary General Partha Chatterjee said in Kolkatta.
Stating that the party gave instructions for a statewide agitation to protest deprivation by the Centre, Mr Chatterjee said "This dirty politics will have an adverse impact on people's daily life.
"This agitation is also in protest against insult to our members in the Parliament by some members of the treasury bench," Mr Chatterjee said.
Stating that the railway budget would further encourage price rise and cause misery to the people, Mr Chatterjee said that nothing was given to the state.
Apart from this, nothing was said categorically about the fate of ongoing projects, he said.
He also criticised FDI in railway infrastructure projects.
