TMC MP Kunal Ghosh suspended from party

New Delhi: Dissident Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Kunal Ghosh, whose name has cropped up in Saradha chit fund scam and who was served a show cause notice for speaking against party chief Mamata Banerjee, was today suspended from the party, while two other MPs who had also hit out at the leadership were spared.The decision to suspend Ghosh for "anti-party activities" came barely a week after he along MPs Satabdi Roy and Tapas Pal were served show-cause notices after they launched an attack on the party leadership while sharing a dais with suspended party legislator Sikha Mitra, the wife of the dissident TMC MP Somen Mitra at a programme here recently."Pending enquiry and till further orders, the disciplinary committee of the Trinamool Congress has unanimously decided to suspend party MP Kunal Ghosh who even after being served showcase notice continues to malign and tarnish the party image," party secretary-general Partha Chatterjee, a member of the three member party disciplinary committee, told a press conference here today."Final disciplinary action against you will be taken after going through the usual procedure," Chatterjee said quoting the letter of suspension.The party, however, spared MPs Satabdi Roy and Tapas Pal who were also served show cause notices on September 20 after they apologised in writing to the party chief, Chatterjee said.Ghosh, who had on Sunday threatened to "reveal many things" if he was arrested in the Saradha chitfund case, has alleged that he was being made a sacrificial lamb.He had claimed that his life was under threat and was interrogated by the police a number of times after he was named by Saradha Group chairman, Sudipta Sen who is in judicial custody, in a letter to CBI alleging the MP's involvement in the ponzi scam.Chatterjee said, "No one is above party discipline. We will not spare anyone to tarnish the party's image and break party discipline and principles irrespective of his stature."Kunal Ghosh is not an ordinary worker of the party. He was nominated by the party," he said.TMC sources said that the decision to suspend Ghosh was taken to stem revolt against the party.Ghosh, who once had close rapport with the Trinamool Congress supremo and was nominated by her to contest the election to Rajya Sabha in March 2012, was the CEO of one of the media companies of the tainted Saradha Group.Ghosh has said he has kept a video recording of his statements about the Saradha chit fund scam in the custody of a friend in Delhi.
