Undivided Andhra Pradesh had come into existence on Nov 1, 1956 with the merger of Telangana with then Andhra State, which was earlier carved out of Madras State.
Telangana witnessed violent movement for separate statehood in 1969. The movement was revived in 2000.
The appointed day for Telangana was declared a day before the election schedule to be announced by the Election Commission.
The commission may conduct the assembly elections along with the Lok Sabha polls in undivided Andhra Pradesh. Two governments may be formed after June 2, the day when the term of existing assembly is expiring.
The central government last week brought Andhra Pradesh under President's rule and kept the assembly under suspended animation following the resignation of Kiran Kumar Reddy as chief minister to protest the state's bifurcation.
