New Delhi, July 4: Janata Party president Dr Subramanian Swamy today met Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi and offered to merge his Janata Party in BJP "if BJP agrees".

Later Dr Swamy tweeted:

" #Subramaniam swamy met Modi..swamy said that he is ready to merge his janta party with BJP. i m in NDA.. I am a  Jan Sanghi..i knw bjp leaders for the last 30years.. I m ready for merger, if BJP agrees."

Swamy has had a stormy relationship with senior BJP leaders like Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L K Advani. He had occasionally gone to the extent of criticizing Vajpayee by circulating booklets with defamatory articles about him.

Of late, Swamy has come close to the BJP leadership after his role in getting the 2G scam investigated under supervision of Supreme Court, and getting DMK leaders behind bars.

Swamy's Janata Party is part of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance.
