Lalitpur (UP), Jan 17: Ridiculing the Samajwadi Party's advertisement with punchline “Ummedon ki cycle” (cycle of hope), Congress leader Rahul Gandhi today said the cycle had “punctured” hope of people in the state thrice as it did nothing for them.
“I recently saw the hoarding of SP with ‘ummedon ki cycle' punchline. I want to say that SP supremo Mulayam has been Chief Minister of UP thrice, and the cycle had punctured hope of common man,” he said addressing an election rally here.
Alleging large scale discrepancies in the appointment of policemen during the Samajwadi Party regime, Rahul also said people were “not allowed to register their FIRs in police stations as gundas used to hush them”.
Reiterating charges of corruption against the BSP government, Rahul said that tractors meant for Bundelkhand farmers were given to children of Naseemuddin Siddiqui while the former were given sick goats.
“After visiting Bundelkhand, I had met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who later released package of Rs 8000 crore for the region but it was not utilised. A magic elephant in Lucknow is eating your money,” he said seeking people's support for a complete change in the state.
The Congress general secretary also attacked the BJP for its India Shining slogan and said the saffron party leaders did not realise the ground realities and made the slogan.
Promising to give an “aam admi ki sarkar” (common man's government), Rahul said that Congress, if voted to power, would ensure all round development in the state.
