New Delhi, June 20: Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who conducted an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas of Uttarakhand along with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Wednesday, sought quick relief for stranded people, a party statement said.
The Congress president urged the state government to evacuate the stranded and expeditiously restore communications systems, a party statement said.
According to the statement, Gandhi saw that a large number of people had been stranded as water had inundated many areas in the state. Roads, bridges and houses had been destroyed in flash floods and cloud bursts.
The statement, issued by party general secretary Ajay Maken, said Sonia Gandhi was likely to visit relief camps again, and remained in constant touch with Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna.
