Lucknow: A day after the Congress Working Committee gave her a one-year extension as party president, Sonia Gandhi reached her parliamentary constituency Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday.
She unveiled the statues of her late husband and former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi at the Panchayat Bhavan and mingled with the crowd of supporters waiting to catch a glimpse of her.
Sonia Gandhi broke the security cordon and met the waiting people, enquired about their well-being and assured them that she would attend to their problems very soon.
On a two-day visit, the Congress president also met party workers.
She later attended a district-level meeting in which she decided that the "ninda prastav" passed at the previous meeting against the union government would be forwarded to the Centre.
On Thursday, she is also scheduled to meet local residents at the guest house where she is staying.
