Mumbai: Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee president Manikrao Thakre today claimed that some leaders of the ‘Mahayuti' were in touch with the Congress and would join the the party soon.

Talking to reporters, Thakre said he would not disclose their names at this juncture.

He was replying to a question on reports that Rashtriya Samaj Paksha leader Mahadev Jankar, who is part of the Sena-BJP led Mahayuti, was upset with the saffron alliance and was in touch with the Congress.

He also denied that state Industries Minister Narayan Rane is upset with the party.

“Rane is not upset. The assembly election preparatory meeting for Konkan region would be held soon,” Thakre said.

Thakre, AICC General Secretary Mohan Prakash, Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan participated in the preparatory meeting for North Maharashtra region which comprises five districts and 47 assembly segments.

Party sources said senior leaders from the region like Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat, Agriculture Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, senior leaders Manikrao Gavit, Surupsingh Naik, Amrish Patel and MLAs were present at the meeting.

The state leadership asked for district-wise reports of political and organisational situation in each constituency to enable the party to decide on candidates for the upcoming elections.
