Born in 1965, Tharoor's father was a newspaper executive and his mother was a homemaker. Hailing from Kerala, Tharoor started his schooling from Yercaud and then moved to Mumbai. For his higher education, he opted for St. Stephen's College in Delhi. Shashi went to the US and completed his masters and Ph.D in Diplomacy from Tufts University. Tharoor took active part in plays both at the school and college level. Ever since his college days, he has been an active participant of the human rights activist group.
