Allahabad, Sep 28 : The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) today welcomed the Supreme Court ruling dismissing a plea for deferment of the verdict on Ayodhya title suits but appealed to Hindus to maintain calm even if the judgement went against the saffron outfit.

The apex court's order had brought a huge relief to all those apprehending a prolonged delay on adjudication of 60-year-old title suits, VHP International President Ashok Singhal told reporters here.

He reiterated VHP's stand that building a Ram temple at Ayodhya by an Act of Parliament was the only way to resolve the lingering issue.

"We welcome the Supreme Court's decision to vacate the stay on pronouncement of the verdict by the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court," Singhal said.  "This has brought a tremendous relief to all those who were apprehending a huge delay in adjudication of the matter as one of the judges on the High Court bench is to retire in three days," he said.   Asked about the possibility of the High Court ruling going against the VHP, Singhal said "we will still have the option of moving the Supreme Court."

'We, however, appeal to our Hindu brethren to stay calm irrespective of which way the verdict goes," the VHP leader said.

He said "building a Ram temple at the disputed site in Ayodhya is the only way out and we will continue to strive for the same."

Singhal alleged the stay on the pronouncement of verdict had "caused a lot of confusion and raised a number of doubts in minds of the people".

He demanded an inquiry to identify forces which were behind this "mischievous move".

The Allahabad High Court will deliver its verdict on 60-year-old Ramjanambhoomi-Babri Masjid title suit on Thursday after the Supreme Court today cleared the way dismissing a petition for its deferment. PTI
