Chandigarh: Union Ministers Birender Singh and Suresh Prabhu, who have been nominated by the BJP for by-elections to two Rajya Sabha seats in Haryana, will file their nominations tomorrow.

“Both of us will file our nominations anytime after 11 am,” Singh told PTI over phone.

He said they would reach here from Delhi to file their nominations.

The Election Commission had earlier notified the bye-election to the Council of States from Haryana. As per the schedule, the last date for filing nominations is November 25.  Polling, if required, will be held on December 5 and the results will be declared on the same day.

The two Ministers, who were inducted in the Union Cabinet following its expansion on October 27, are not members of Parliament. They are required to be an MP within six months of being a Minister.

Birender Singh was earlier a Rajya Sabha member of Congress from Haryana but quit his seat to join the BJP ahead of assembly elections in the state.

The bye-elections were necessary as the seats had fallen vacant after Birender Singh resigned from his seat on August 28 and Ranbir Singh of Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) quit on November 1 after being elected to the assembly from Nalwa seat.

BJP, which formed government on its own in Haryana for the first time after getting an absolute majority in last month's Assembly polls by winning 47 out of 90 seats, is assured of getting both the seats unopposed.  This will help the party to further raise its strength in the Upper House where it does not enjoy a majority. BJP at present has only 43 seats in Rajya Sabha.

The terms of the two Ministers will be till August 1,
