'Rs. 100 Crore' club of India's richest politicians

New Delhi, Jan 15: India may be a poor country but when it comes to politicians they can put to shame many politicians across the world. India has a long list of ‘Crorepati' politicians. In fact, this has become the very USP of Indian politicians. Recently, when charges of misappropriation of funds amounting to Rs. 71 lakh were leveled against Union Minister Salman Khurshid, another union minister Beni Prasad Verma ridiculed the allegations by retorting that a union minister will not do anything wrong for a petty amount of Rs. 71lakhs. He went on to say that he would have given the allegations a serious though had it been anywhere close to Rs. 65 Crore and not Rs. 65 lakh. It's not that all politicians have made money through inappropriate means. There are many politicians who have earned good money through sheer hard work , dedication and commitment. Let's have a look at those politicians who have assets beyond Rs. 100 Crore: 1. Jagan Mohan Reddy (Rs. 446 Crore): Son of ex-Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister late Y S Rajashekhar Reddy, Jagan Mohan Reddy is an MP from Kadappa constituency in Andhra Pradesh. Jagan Mohan has assets worth Rs. 446 Crores. This is what Jagan Mohan has declared to the EC before parliamentary elections. It combines the assets of both Jagan Mohan and his wife.Companies held by Jagan Mohan include the media company Jagati Publications, Bharathi Cements and Sandur Power Company. Jagan Mohan's detractors allege that he emerged as a businessman only after his father Y S Rajashekhar Reddy took over as the CM of Andhra Pradesh. 2. Jaya Bachchan (Rs. 494 Crore) The total assets of Jaya Bachchan along with her husband Amitabh Bachchan amounts to Rs. 494 Crores. Jaya has property and investments of Rs 91. 65 crore while Amitabh's assets amount to 402.21 crore. Jaya Bachchan is a renowned actor of Bollywood. She was at the peak of her career before marrying Amitabh Bachchan. She is an alumna of the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune. Presently, she is a Rajya Sabha MP on Samajwadi Party ticket. 3. T Subbarami Reddy (Rs. 239.6 Crore) T Subbarami Reddy belongs to the Congress party and has total assets worth Rs. 239.6 Crore. He is a prominent industrialist as well. His business interests include major interests in sugar, chemicals, film production etc. He is also the founder of Hyderabad's best cinema theatre -Kodak Theatre – based out of Hyderabad. He has produced a number of Hindi, Telugu and Tamil films. He received a national award for the best feature film for producing Sanskrit film Bhagwat Gita. TSR was elected to 11th and 12th Lok Sabha twice in 1996 and 1998 from Visakhapatnam constituency. He was elected as Rajya Sabha member in 2002 and continued in the position third term. He was Minister of State in the Ministry of Mines between 2006 and 2008. On 15 June 2012, T.Subbarami Reddy lost the election for Nellore constituency by a massive margin of 290,000 votes to YSRCP's Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy. 4. Anand Singh (Rs.239 Crore) Anand Singh is a BJP MLA from Vijaynagara constituency in Bellary district. He has assets worth 239 Crore. 5. Anil H. Lad (Rs.175 Crore)Anil H Lad is a Rajya Sabha MP from Andhra Pradesh and has assets worth Rs. 175 Crore. 6. Naveen Jindal (Rs.132 Crore) Naveen Jindal is an industrialist and a Lok Sabha MP from Kurukshetra Lok Sabha constituency. He is the chairman of Jindal Steel and Power Limited and has assets worth 132 Crore. 7. Rajgopal Lagdapati (Rs.123 Crore)Son-in-law of former union minister P Upendra, Rajgopal Lagdapati is a Congress politician from Andhra Pradesh. He has assets worth 123 Crore. He is a Mechanical Engineering by training and a product of V.R.Siddhartha Engineering College, Vijayawada that happens to be the first private engineering in Andhra Pradesh. He did the fast-unto death movement for United Andhra. He was elected to 14th Lok Sabha from Vijaywada constituency in Andhra Pradesh. 8. M Krishnappa (Rs.136 Crore) M Krishnappa is the Congress MLA from Vijaynagar constituency in Karnataka. He is also a businessman dealing with real estate and land development. He has assets worth Rs. 136 Crore. 9. M A Ramaswamy (Rs.107 Crore) Co-Founder and Chairman of Chettinad Group of Companies, M Krishnappa is a Rajya Sabha member of Karnataka. He belongs to Janta Dal (Secular) of H D Deve Gowda. He is also the Pro-Chancellor for Annamalai University. He has assets worth Rs. 107 Crore.
